Typically, update error messages such as "Unable to download update files - call technical support" or "Path or File access error" indicate that the folder into which CTI Navigator needs to download update files is missing or can't be accessed. In general, ensure that you are logged into Windows either using a Computer Administrator user account, or are using a Windows Limited Account that has been assigned administrative privileges for the CTI Navigator program (see "Set Permissions for Windows Limited Accounts" in the related articles at the end of this web page).
Old Installations. If CTI Navigator was installed before April 19, 2012 in a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, ensure that CTI Navigator is set to "Run as Administrator". (See note 2 below.) To manually set CTI Navigator to always "run as an administrator":
Note 1: For some installations, you may also right-click on CTI Navigator's icon on the Windows desktop and repeat steps 3 through 6 above.
(For details regarding the Run as Administrator privilege, see the related article, "Using Programs in Windows Vista and Windows 7.")
Note 2. CTI Navigator installations after April 19, 2012 do not need to be set to run as administrator.
Otherwise, if you are not
running Windows Vista or Windows 7, or CTI Navigator was installed after
April 19, 2012, or the problem persists in Windows Vista/7 after
setting "run as administrator"
(as described above), verify and if necessary recreate an Update folder
for CTI Navigator as follows:
Update Folder Location Note 3.
The path to where CTI Navigator's Update
If something removed CTI Navigator's Update folder, it
is possible that you may need to configure the security programs that
are running on your computer to "always allow",
"trust", or "exclude from
scanning" all CTI Navigator files and functions (see related
articles below for information on configuring common security programs).

to the Top of this webpage If the Status at the lower left corner in CTI Navigator shows "Update
Requested", this indicates that the program is set to run over a
Local Area Network (LAN) and your computer is waiting for the local server to
update. If your computer is a workstation on a LAN running a shared database
for CTI Navigator, contact your LAN administrator to get the local server to
update. If CTI Navigator was not installed as a workstation on a LAN which has
CTI Navigator running on the local server and CTI Navigator shows an
"update requested" status, your program will not update and the
status in CTI Navigator will never change. Further requests to update will
receive an "An Update is already in Progress" message.
Usually this situation arises when someone erroneously changes CTI Navigator's
default setup. To correct an "update requested" message when
your computer is not a workstation on a LAN, go to CTI Navigator's login
screen and click the Setup button. If you have installed MLS data on
your computer, under the "Data Files" tab select "This
Computer" (instead of Local Area Network). If you have a Tax Files
tab and you have installed taxes, also select "This Computer"
(instead of Local Area Network) under the Tax Files tab. When selecting taxes,
ensure that there is a path to the tax files displayed in the box. If you only
have the CTI Navigator program installed (no data/taxes installed), select
"Internet" as the location (instead of Local Area Network).
When the location is set to Internet, there is no Update button on the
login screen. For further information on setup options, see Install CTI
Navigator in the related articles
below.

A "Path or
File access error"
when using MLS "send" functions (such as Add/Revise Listings) indicates
that CTI Navigator does not have the administrative privileges in Windows
necessary to access or save files. In Windows 2000 or later, ensure that you are
logged into Windows either using a Computer Administrator user account,
or are using a Windows Limited Account that has been assigned administrative privileges
for the CTI Navigator program (see the related
article, "Set Permissions for Windows Limited Accounts").
In Windows Vista, or Windows
7 ensure that CTI Navigator is set to "Run
as Administrator" (see instructions under Update
above, or see details in the related
article, "Using Programs in Windows Vista and Windows 7").
