Switch to or Retry error

An error message such as "This action cannot be completed because the other program [application] is busy. Choose Switch to, Retry or Cancel to activate the busy program and correct the problem", or a similarly worded error, can have many possible causes. It essentially indicates that CTI Navigator has encountered a time out or busy signal from Windows or from access to a network, or interference with access to the Internet.

Internet

When CTI Navigator is set to access data over the Internet, such an error can be caused by a slow, weak/variable, noisy or filtered Internet connection, or an accumulation of too many or of corrupted temporary Internet files. Note that opening CTI Navigator over the Internet is not the same as opening a web site in a browser. Continuous data access requires Windows to "tunnel' your MLS code and password over the Internet to establish a secure and stable "remote connection" between your computer and the MLS server.

Ensure that your Internet Firewall and Internet Options in Windows are configured to always allow CTI Navigator to access the Internet (see "Configure Security Settings in Windows" in the related articles below). If you are using a third party security program, also ensure that its security settings are not interfering with CTI Navigator's access to the Internet by following the instructions in the related articles below appropriate for your security program.

For infrequent occurrences even when your security is set correctly, you can just wait about five seconds and then click Retry.  Sometimes it may be helpful to re-start Windows to clear out its memory and automatically delete temporary Internet files. You also can manually delete all the files in the Windows\Temp directory that have a tilde (~) prefix and end with the .tmp extension. If your Internet connection is wireless, try either moving your computer closer to the wireless router or connecting to the router by wire to improve the signal.

If the error persists, you can install the MLS data (and tax data where provided) onto your computer and then CTI Navigator will not need to establish a remote Internet connection at login (or search). See the related article below for instructions to "Install CTI Navigator".

Local Data

A busy... switch to or retry type of error often indicates that necessary system resources (such as memory or Windows system files) are temporarily unavailable to the program. A resource constraint is indicated if the error occurs when CTI Navigator is attempting to open local data (such as at login or search).

Resource problems can be caused by undetected malware running in the background, interference by some other program (such as AgentOffice or the Aerials Express), multiple firewalls or security filters conflicting, or memory leakage from having too many programs loaded into memory or that failed to release memory when they were supposed to be closed.

To eliminate a possible malware problem, run an antivirus and antispyware scan of your entire computer system, See the related article, Security Cleanup Links, for instructions on How to Cleanup and Prevent Virus or Spyware.

A busy... switch to or retry error when attempting to open or preview an MLS report could be caused by another program interfering with CTI Navigator's access to shared Windows files. If you have AgentOffice from Fidelity or the Aerials Express imagery program installed on your computer, follow the instructions at "Out of Memory" error or "Overflow" error appropriate for the program on your computer (AgentOffice or Aerials Express).

To free up memory resources, re-start Windows. If you have a large number of programs that always open when you open Windows, they can consume resources or possibly interfere with other programs. To address this possibility, you may want to follow the instructions in the related article, "Disable un-necessary windows startup items."
