Customized Items

Items that you create or customize and save in CTI Navigator Desktop (such as CMAs, custom exports, searches, flyers, reports, table layouts and screen layouts) are stored in your Users directory locally on your computer. The only agent customized items from CTI Navigator Desktop that are stored on the MLS server are CTI Matchmakers.

Path. The first time you log into CTI Navigator Desktop, CTI Navigator creates a folder on your computer in its "Users" directory with your MLS login name:  "\CTI Navigator\{YourMLScode}\Users\{YourAgentName}\". [See note 1 for YourMLScode and note 2 for YourAgentName.] The path to your MLS User's folder depends on when you installed the CTI Navigator Desktop program, and into which version of Windows it was installed.

Items you create and save are stored in the appropriate Users subfolder under your {Agent} name as summarized below:

Transfer to Another User or Computer

Custom items stored under one user name are not normally accessible to other users or other computers. To access custom items created on the same computer but under another user name, you must manually copy the files in Windows Explorer from the original user's subfolder in CTI Navigator to the current user's subfolder in CTI Navigator.

For example, to copy a custom report created by Jane Realtor for use also by Joyce Realtor (in the same MLS), copy the appropriate file (such as Report1.rdf)

Also, because they are stored locally custom items created on one computer will not be available on another computer (even if CTI Navigator is using data over the Internet) unless the custom files are manually copied and transferred to the other computer. Custom files can be transferred between computers by using removable media or by email (as described below).

Transfer Using Removable Media

To manually transfer custom files between computers using removable media:

  1. Close CTI Navigator Desktop, insert removable media (such as a USB drive or floppy disk) in the originating PC, open Windows Explorer, browse to the appropriate User's subfolder containing the custom item to be copied (see path paragraph above for locations).

  2. Right-click on the name of the file to be copied and select "Send to" your removable media (or use the Windows Copy function and then Paste to the appropriate drive).

  3. With CTI Navigator closed on the receiving PC,  insert the removable media containing the copy of the custom item. Open Windows Explorer (right-click on Start > select Explore), browse to the location of the custom file, right-click and Copy the file from the removable media.

  4. Scroll to and select the correct subfolder for the user on the receiving PC's hard drive and paste.  If the folder does not exist on this computer, select (highlight) the Users folder. Then on the top menu click File (or in Windows Vista or  Windows 7 right-click on the Users folder) > New > Folder > type the exact name of the necessary folder (see the originating computer or the table above for folder names).

  5. Exit Windows Explorer, remove the removable media, and run CTI Navigator on the receiving PC. The file(s) you transferred should now be available in CTI Navigator on this computer.

Using the previous example, to manually transfer Jane Realtor's custom flyer named Flyer2 between computers:

  1. Close CTI Navigator and insert removable media (such as a USB drive or floppy disk) in the originating PC.  Right-click on Start, select Explore, browse to {your install path}\CTI Navigator\Mls1\Users\Jane Realtor\Reports\Flyers\Flyer2.rdf.

  2. Right-click on Flyer2.rdf and select "Send to" your removable media.

  3. On the receiving PC, insert the removable media containing Flyer2.rdf. Right-click on Start, select Explore, browse to the location of and select Flyer2.rdf on the removable media, right-click on the Flyer2.rdf file, and select Copy.

  4. Scroll to {your install path}\CTI Navigator\Mls1\Users\Jane Realtor\Reports\Flyers\,  right-click and Paste the Flyer2.rdf file into the Flyers folder.

  5. Exit Windows Explorer, remove the removable media, and run CTI Navigator on the receiving PC. Flyer2 should now be available for use or modification in CTI Navigator.

Transfer Using Email

User customized files (or the entire User's folder) in CTI Navigator also can be emailed from one computer to another computer. Be sure to save the file(s) in the appropriate location on the second computer (which may differ from their location on the originating computer). For the appropriate location, see a description of paths at the top of this web page

If both installations were before April 19, 2012 and the Windows differ in architecture (32 vs. 64-bit), the CTI Navigator files in "\Program Files\" on the 32-bit computer should be transferred into the corresponding location in "\Program Files (x86)\" on the 64-bit computer, and vice versa. If one installation was before April 19, 2012 (old) and one was after April 19, 2012 (newer), copy from the older \Program Files\  or \Program File (x86)\  to the newer \Program Data\  [on Windows 7/Vista] or to \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ [on Windows XP], and vice versa. See a description of installation paths at the top of this web page.  Also, if the drives on which CTI Navigator User Data is installed differ (such as "C" drive on one computer but "D" drive on the other computer), set the path on the receiving computer to the correct drive where CTI Navigator User Data is installed.

If the files being transferred are large, use a compression utility (such as WinZip or the "compression (zip)" function in Windows XP and later) to reduce the file size before copying or emailing. To use the Windows compression utility, right-click on the file (or folder), select "Send To", and click on "Compressed (zipped) folder". If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled in Windows 8, 7 or Windows Vista, the zipped folder containing the compressed file may need to be saved to the Desktop because saving to "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" folders will be blocked by UAC.

On the receiving computer, right-click on the transferred file (or folder), select "Extract All" and set the path to where the file(s) belongs under CTI Navigator. If the file is being extracted to an older installation (before April 19, 2012) of CTI Navigator in Windows 7 or Windows Vista with User Account Control (UAC) enabled, it may need to be extracted first to the Desktop (or a non-system related folder), and then moved to its proper location under CTI Navigator. This is because Windows UAC protects Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders from changes not specifically authorized.

Note 1: Where instructions refer to {YourMLScode}, substitute CTI's 3-letter code for your local MLS. This code can be determined by opening the CTI Navigator login screen > click the Setup button > the first 3 letters in the Internet Server Address box are your MLS code.

Note 2: Where instructions refer to {YourAgentName}, substitute your name as it is spelled by your local MLS. Agent Names are displayed in CTI Navigator Desktop in the Roster
