Uninstall CTI Navigator Desktop (or other Windows Program)

It is rarely necessary to uninstall CTI Navigator Desktop to fix an error. Usually there is a specific fix for a particular problem (see "Fix Error Messages" in related articles below.  However, if you need to re-install the program be careful to first un-install the existing version before installing a new version.

If local MLS data is installed in your CTI Navigator, you do not need to uninstall the data when uninstalling and/or re-installing the program. Uninstall listing data only and/or tax data (where applicable), if there is a suspected problem with the listing or tax data on your computer; or if you have set CTI Navigator to use data over the Internet (and therefore it will no longer will be using local data). Uninstall All Data after uninstalling the program if you want to completely remove all CTI Navigator files. Delete Navigator from the Windows Registry only if uninstalling the program was not successful.

To uninstall CTI Navigator Desktop, follow the steps below as appropriate.

In Windows 10: right-click on Start > select "Apps and Features" > select Apps and Features on the left pane > left-click on the program to remove > click the Uninstall button beneath the program.

Data

The path to where your MLS Data is installed on your computer (and hence from where it must be uninstalled) depends on when you installed the CTI Navigator Desktop program, and into which version of Windows it was installed.

Uninstall All Data

If data was installed in Windows XP/Vista/7 BEFORE April 2012: Right-click on Start > select Explore > browse to C:\ Program Files (or Program Files (x86) in 64-bit Windows) > select CTI Navigator folder > click on File (in the top menu of Windows Explorer) > delete.

If data was installed in Windows XP after April 2012: Right-click on Start > select Explore > browse to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ > select CTI Navigator folder > click on File (in the top menu of Windows Explorer) > delete.

If data was installed in Windows Vista or 7 after April 2012: Right-click on Start > select Explore > browse to C:\Program Data\ > select CTI Navigator folder > click on File (on top menu of Windows Explorer) > delete.

If data was installed in Windows 8 after April 2012: Open the Desktop view > right-click on taskbar (at bottom of screen) > select File Explorer > browse to C:\Program Data\ > right-click on CTI Navigator folder >  delete.

Note: This deletes the CTI Navigator folder and all its subfolders and contents on your hard drive. See below to delete only listing data.

Warning: Deleting the CTI Navigator folder will remove all custom searches, tables, flyers, reports or CMAs saved in CTI Navigator on this computer for all users. It also removes all of the listing data, listing photos, and taxes (if local taxes are provided). Do not delete the CTI Navigator folder unless you have previously deleted (and not reinstalled) the program.

Uninstall from Registry

Uninstall a program from the Windows registry only if uninstalling the program (as described above) was not successful, and you feel competent to modify the way Windows runs. This is somewhat risky and is rarely necessary.

In Windows XP, Vista or 7: click on Start > [in Windows Vista/7 select All Programs > Accessories] > select Run > type  regedit and press Enter > browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Creative Tech > Navigator > click on Edit (on top menu) > Delete > Exit. [This deletes the Navigator folder and all its contents in the Windows registry.]

In Windows 8: open Search Charm > type regedit > click on regedit.exe in Apps Results > browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > [in 64-bit Windows 8 open Wow6432Node] > open Creative Tech > select  Navigator > click on Edit (in the top menu) > Delete > Exit. [This deletes the Navigator folder and all its contents in the Windows registry.]

Warning: Before making any registry changes, Microsoft highly recommends that you make a backup of your registry (for Microsoft's instructions see the related article below appropriate for your version of Windows). Do not make any changes in the Windows registry other than as indicated here. Incorrect changes in the registry can cause Windows itself to become unstable or not work at all.

Note 1: The easiest way to backup the entire registry in Windows XP is to create a Restore Point using Windows System Restore. To open System Restore, click Start > select All Programs > click Accessories > select System Tools > click System Restore > follow the prompts. For more information, see "How to Restore Windows System Files" in  the related articles at the end of this web page.

Note 2: IF a very old version of CTI Navigator was originally installed on this computer, its registry items may be directly in Creative Tech (i.e., there may not be a Navigator subfolder). In this case, block select (Shift/click) the items in the Creative Tech folder and delete them (but not the Creative Tech folder itself). If a "Sound Blaster" card (by "Creative Technologies") is installed on your computer and there is no Navigator subfolder under Creative Tech, call our technical support (at 1-8000-533-1031) before you delete Registry entries because some of them may belong to your sound card. Whether or not a Sound Blaster card is installed, you can delete the Navigator subfolder (and its contents) under Creative Tech if it exists.

After completing all steps necessary to remove the previous installation, disable any antivirus and re-install the program and, if desired, re-install data from recently made installation discs (or download from CTI's download web site). Uninstalling and then reinstalling should provide a completely fresh installation.

If you installed MLS data or switched from Internet to local data, it is not normally necessary but you may need to set the path to the data using the Setup button on the login screen (see the related article, "Download CTI Navigator"). Next, log into CTI Navigator and, if not prompted, select Tools > Compact Listing database. Then exit CTI Navigator and update manually (Start > Programs > CTI Navigator > Update Manager > Update button).
