Insert CMA into PowerPoint Presentation
PowerPoint (2010 +) does not support opening or importing
multimedia HTML code (which is used by CMAs created by CTI Navigator Web) or
PDF code (which can be output by CTI Navigator Desktop). However, CMA pages can
be inserted into PowerPoint slides as images.
Following are the basic steps to
insert CMA pages as separate slides into PowerPoint 2010. Detail instructions
for using PowerPoint itself are outside the scope of this article.
In CTI Navigator Web:
- Open your CMA in CTI Navigator Web (select Tools, CMA
Manager, and then your CMA).
- Click the Printing Tab and verify (or modify)
the Selected Reports.
- Click the Preview button. The CMA will display
in your computer's default browser.
- Optional: In your browser, set the Zoom to
display one full page.
- Select the page you want to copy into PowerPoint (and
ensure that the entire area to be copied is visible without scrolling).
- Leave the CMA screen maximized (because only what is
visible will be copied).
- Open or switch to PowerPoint (do not minimize the
browser screen displaying the CMA).
In PowerPoint 2010:
- Open PowerPoint (by default it opens on the Home
tab)
- Select the Insert Tab
- Click the Screenshot button and click "Screen
Clipping". PowerPoint will automatically minimize to reveal the
browser screen displaying your CMA.
- Once the cursor becomes a cross, click and drag to
select the portion of the CMA page to be copied. When you release the mouse
button, the selected section will appear in a PowerPoint slide.
- Optional: Select the "Picture Tools"
popup tab if you want to adjust the CMA page screenshot (such as
crop, resize, add background or frame). Note: PowerPoint cannot edit
the text in a screenshot.
- Minimize PowerPoint (or switch view to your
browser)
- In your browser, scroll to and center the next CMA page
to be copied.
- Maximize (or switch view to) PowerPoint, select the Home
tab, and click the "New Slide" button. (If desired, you can
click the down arrow beside "New Slide" to specify a type of slide
- such as blank.)
- Repeat steps 2 through 8 for each CMA page to be
copied.
- Optional: Select Design, Transitions or Animations tab
to enhance slides.
- Select the "Slide Show" tab to view,
customize or broadcast your CMA presentation.
- Save your PowerPoint Presentation file.
See also the CMA from
CTI Navigator Web or Desktop section below.
You can use Adobe Reader to copy CMA pages as images to insert into
PowerPoint as follows.
- In CTI Navigator Desktop, save your CMA as a PDF file.
- Open the CMA pdf file in a current version of Adobe
Reader.
- In the Adobe Reader Toolbar, select View and
"Zoom to Page Level".
- Select a CMA page to copy
- In the Adobe Reader Toolbar, select Edit
- Select "Take a Snapshot"
- Click and drag around the section of the page to copy
(to the Windows Clipboard).
- Open (or switch screen view to) PowerPoint.
- On the Home tab, click the "New Slide"
button and then click the Paste icon.
- Switch screen to Adobe Reader and scroll to the next
page in the CMA to be copied.
- Click and drag around the section of the page to copy.
- Switch to PowerPoint, click the "New Slide"
button and then click the Paste icon.
- Repeat steps 10 through 12 for each CMA page to be
copied.
- Optional: Select Design, Transitions or Animations tab
to enhance slides.
- Select the "Slide Show" tab to view,
customize or broadcast your CMA presentation.
- Save your PowerPoint Presentation file.
Windows Vista, 7 and 8 include a screen-capture "Snipping Tool"
that allows users to copy a screen image and save it as an image file (PNG, GIF,
or JPG). If your computer has a snipping or similar screen-capture tool, you can
preview your CMA in CTI Navigator Desktop or Web, and use your
screen-capture tool to copy and save the image of each CMA page as a separate
file. Then you can open PowerPoint, select Insert tab, click the "Photo
Album" button, and select all of the CMA page files to automatically
create a separate slide for each page.
A CMA in HTML (browser) code or in PDF code can be inserted as a
"Live" Web Page into PowerPoint by using the free LiveWeb
PowerPoint add-in by Shyam Pillai. There are two versions of LiveWeb:
(1) for PowerPoint 2007 - 2010, and (2) for PowerPoint 1997 - 2003. These add-ins are available for download
at http://skp.mvps.org/liveweb.aspx.
Instructions for both installation and usage are provided at this website. Note
that LiveWeb inserts all of the CMA pages into one slide rather
than separate slides for each page.
