As with many error messages, there can be several causes for and variations of this error message. The appropriate fix may depend on the version of Windows that is running on your computer and when CTI Navigator Desktop was installed. Follow the instructions below appropriate for the function you were using in CTI Navigator Desktop when the error occurred:
A "permission denied" error when attempting to display a report in CTI Navigator Desktop indicates that at least one listing photo probably is locked or corrupted on your computer. To fix this error, follow the instructions in the related article, "Photo Install or Update errors...".
Send functions in CTI Navigator Desktop include Login over the Internet, Retrieve or Send listing, Send photos, Open or Send CTI Matchmaker.
Windows 7 or Vista: CTI Navigator Desktop installed prior to April 19, 2012 must be assigned administrative privileges in Windows Vista or Windows 7 to utilize Windows services (such as accessing the Internet or compacting local files). To give the program administrative privileges, right-click on the Windows Start icon > select Windows Explorer > browse to the folder that contains the "CTI Navigator.exe" program file (typically C:\Program Files\CTI Navigator; or, in a 64-bit version of Windows, C:\Program Files (x86)\CTI Navigator) > right-click on the CTI Navigator.exe file > select Properties > click the Compatibility tab > under Privilege Level, check "Run this program as an Administrator" > click OK.
Installations of CTI Navigator Desktop on or after April 19, 2012 do not require, and should not be assigned, administrative privileges. For more Vista and Windows 7 specific information, see the related article, "Use Windows Vista and Windows 7").
Windows XP (or Windows Vista) if CTI Navigator was installed on this computer before June 2008: For old installations of CTI Navigator Desktop in Windows XP to be able to automatically access the Internet, either (a) the Windows DCOM function may need to be enabled and set to use its Tunneling protocol, or (b) the Windows XP code for Internet access must be upgraded to use Microsoft's more advanced ".NET Framework" technology. Otherwise, Windows will display a Permission Denied" error when CTI Navigator tries to access the Internet. The easiest fix usually is to ensure that your Windows is up-to-date, then uninstall CTI Navigator and re-install a new copy of CTI Navigator (click here to download the latest version of Navigator Desktop).
Windows 2000 (or earlier): To fix a "Permission Denied", "Remote Calls Not Allowed", or "Permission to use Object Denied" error in Windows 2000, or if the preceding does not fix the error when using CTI Navigator's Internet functions in Windows XP, 7 or Vista installed prior to April 19, 2012:
If you are using McAfee's firewall, ensure that (1) CTI Navigator is granted "full access"; and (2) the "McAfee Redirector" proxy services (if installed) are disabled (see related articles below).
If starting the DCOM Server Process Launcher (described above) does not fix the problem, follow the instructions in the related article "Fix Remote Server does not exist or is unavailable error (462)".
If the error persists, ensure that you log into Windows using a Computer Administrator account, or an account that has been setup with the appropriate "permissions" by a Computer Administrator (see the appropriate article, "Set Permissions for Windows Limited Accounts" and/or "Using Windows Vista and Windows 7", below).
For older versions of Windows or if completing all of the preceding steps still does not fix the error, advanced users may open the Windows Registry editor (see warning below) by selecting Start > Run > regedit > Open. In the Registry, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > ole > beside LegacyAuthenticationLevel, if the REG_DWORD Data shows 0x00000001 (0), double-click on LegacyAuthenticationLevel and change the Value data from 0 to 1 > do not make any other changes > verify that REG_DWORD shows 0x00000001 (1)> exit the Registry Editor > re-start Windows.Warning: Making changes to the Windows Registry is risky and should be attempted only by advanced users. Before you modify the Windows Registry, it is advisable to back it up and ensure that you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For information about how to back up, restore, and edit the registry, read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry (see the article Internet link below).
