Fix Missing or Inactive HTML or Text Link, or Missing Attachments in E-mail

The security settings in some e-mail programs may be set to block HTML code, Text links or attachments. To configure security settings so that MLS report codes are not blocked when sent, follow the instructions in the related articles below appropriate for your e-mail program.

If the security in your email program is properly configured but MLS reports arrive without their link codes, an antivirus or antispam program on your computer may be removing such codes from outgoing email. To prevent such filtering of outgoing email messages, follow the instructions in the related articles below, "Disable Scanning of Outgoing Email."

Activating Links in Windows Live Mail 2011

To view an MLS Report in the browser by clicking on a hyperlink in the 2011 version of Windows Live Mail:

  1. Hold down the CTRL key when you click on the HTML link or Text link.
  2. To activate a Text Link (displayed in black font), click at the end of the text link on-screen and either press the Enter key or Space key on the keyboard. The text should change color to purple and be underlined. Then hold down the CTRL key when you click on the activated link to view the report.

Server has Terminated Connection: Message being Broken Apart

Outlook Express and Windows Mail can be set to break apart messages that are larger than a designated size and send the message in a series of smaller pieces to your email provider's server. This break apart setting should not be selected unless required by your email provider because it can destroy attachments (such as pdf files).

To verify whether your email program is set to break apart messages, select Tools > Accounts > your Default account > Properties button > Advanced tab. Under Sending, un-check "Break apart messages larger than 60 KB."

MLS reports do not need to be broken into smaller messages as long as they are being sent as HTML Links or Text Links from the Search Results Table. Reports sent as links are very small. (Note: use tokens when sending more than four properties in one message so that the link code is not broken).

On the other hand, if you are previewing MLS reports and emailing them from the Report Preview screen, the email report will be formatted as a PDF file that can quickly get quite large when more than one property is included. The recommended way to email MLS reports is from the table of results (see Help in CTI Navigator or Emailing MLS Reports in the "Email Service  Setup in Windows" article on CTI's Support webpage).

If you prefer to send MLS reports as attachments and your email provider requires you to limit the size of messages below a specified size, there are two settings you can use in Outlook Express or Windows Mail to give your computer more time to transmit the pieces:

  1. Select Tools > Accounts > your Default account > Properties button > Advanced tab
  2. Under "Server Timeout", move the slider to the right (longer)
  3. Close all the accounts screens.
  4. Select Tools > Options > Connection tab
  5. Un-check "Hangup after sending and receiving"
  6. Click OK and close the Tools Options screens.
