Configure Security in Outlook Express or Windows Mail

Stringent security settings in Outlook Express (Windows XP) and Windows Mail (Windows Vista) may prevent  the Windows default email program from sending or displaying MLS reports as attachments or HTML links from CTI Navigator Desktop. Before changing the security in your email program, install or configure to use a dedicated anti-virus program to filter your email messages (see example antivirus programs in the related article, "How to Cleanup and Prevent Virus or Spyware"). Then, if needed, you can configure security in Outlook Express or Windows Mail:

  1. Open Outlook Express or Windows Mail and select ToolsOptions > Security tab > un-check "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
  2. If available under ToolsOptions > Security tab, also un-check "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail" under Download Images
  3. If you are using a third-party antivirus program, ensure that it is not configured to block HTML or "external links". (For example, if using Norton Antivirus see "How to Disable Norton Email Scanning" in the related articles below.)

If your MLS reports arrive without their HTML or Text Link code even after configuring security inside your email program (as described above), you may need to configure or disable the outgoing filter function(s) in your third-party security program (such as by AVG, Norton, McAfee, or PC-cillin). In many security programs, simply uncheck "scan outgoing e-mail" to stop filtering outgoing messages. For instructions to disable some of the most common outgoing filters, see the related article below entitled "Disable scanning of outgoing e-mail."

If Windows Mail determines that a received message might be a phishing (fraudulent) e-mail, it blocks access to all links in that message. To enable links in MLS reports blocked by Windows Mail, open the message, and then, on the information bar at the top of the message, click Unblock to enable links in the message.

Note 1: Outlook Express was rebranded as "Windows Mail" in Windows Vista. Apparently due to the User Account Control restrictions in Vista, Windows Mail must be closed before MLS reports can be transferred from CTI Navigator into Windows Mail. Otherwise, Vista treats the transfer as a separate login attempt and blocks it. If you get a "Login Failed...clsSendMail_Send" error message, you must either

  1. Re-start Windows Vista to clear the failed transfer login; or
  2. Close the error message > close Windows Mail > open  Windows Task Manager > right-click on WinMail.exe> select "End Process".

Note 2. The "Mail" app in Windows 10 does not support Microsoft's internal messaging in Windows, and therefore will not process email created by Navigator Desktop.
