Configure Norton Internet Security

1. Start Norton 360
2. Click Task & Settings at the top of the main menu
3. On the Task & Settings menu click Advanced Settings
4. On the Advanced Settings screen click Firewall Protection Settings
5. On the Firewall Protection Settings screen, click the Firewall Program Rules tab
6. Select CTI Navigator (and/or CTI Update Manager) in the list of programs
7. In the Access column beside CTI Navigator (or CTI Update Manager), click the down arrow and select Allow (not Auto or Custom) 
8. Click the Apply button at the bottom of the screen. 

1. Open Norton Internet Security
   
2. Click the Norton Internet Security tab
3. Click the down arrow for Settings so that a list is displayed
   
4. Open Web Browsing
5. Click Personal Firewall
6. Click the Configure button 
7. Click Program Control on the left pane
   
8. If CTI Navigator is listed: ensure its access is set to "Allow" (not Custom), and that Update Manager is set to Allow. Then skip to step 13 below. 
9. If CTI Navigator is not already listed in the Program Control screen, click the Add button. If CTI Navigator is listed, click the Edit button and skip to step 13 (always change Custom or Block to Allow)
10. Enter CTI Navigator.exe in the File Name field
11. Browse to and click on the CTI Navigator folder
12. Click Open until the Program Control dialog box is displayed
13. Select Allow  
14. Click OK and close Norton.

1. Start Norton Internet Security
2. Click the Norton Internet Security tab 
3. Click the Settings button
4. Under Web Browsing, click Personal Firewall and then Click the Configure button
5. In the left pane, click Program Control
6. If CTI Navigator is listed, ensure its access is set to "Allow" (not Custom). Also ensure that Update Manager is set to Allow. Then skip to the last step (12) below. 
7. If CTI Navigator is not already listed in the Program Control screen, click the Add button
8. In the "Select a program" dialog box, enter CTI Navigator.exe in the File name field
9. Click on the CTI Navigator folder
10. Click Open until the Program Control dialog box is displayed. This may take up to three (3) clicks.
11. Select Allow from the "What do you want to do?" list in the Program Control dialog box.
12. Click OK to close Norton.

The general steps to configure older versions of Norton's Personal Firewall are:

1. Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall
2. Click Status & Security or Options to see Personal Firewall
3. Select Personal Firewall and click the Configure button
4. Select the Programs tab
5. If CTI Navigator is already in the list, verify or change its Settings to "Permit All". (Never leave as Block or Block All.)
6. If CTI Navigator is not listed, click Add and then Browse to CTI Navigator
7. Select CTI Navigator.exe and click Open
8. Select Permit All (or Permit if Permit All is not available)
9. Repeat steps 5 through 8 for CTIUpdateManager.exe
10. Click Next and Finish.

Internet Worm Protection

If you are running Norton's AntiVirus or SystemWorks (by Symantec), you can add programs (such as CTI Navigator and CTI Update Manager) to be "permitted" to run through Norton's "Internet Worm Protection" as follows:

1. Open Norton Protection Center (right-click on Norton's icon in the system tray)
2. Click Options (at the top). Click Norton AntiVirus if you see a menu
3. On the left pane, select Internet Worm Protection
4. On the right pane, click Program Control
5. Click Add
6. Locate the program executable for the program that you would like to add a rule for (Cti Navigator.exe and CtiUpdateManager.exe). If you have other programs that you want to configure, then repeat steps 3-5 for each program.
7. At the next dialog box, from the dropdown menu, click Permit.
8. Click OK.

AntiVirus

Antivirus products may need to be temporarily disabled at times, such as when installing a program or program update in Windows. 

To disable the antivirus feature in Norton 360: 

1. Start Norton 360
2. Select Tasks and Settings
3. Select Virus and Spyware
4. Un-check "Turn on Auto-Protect"
5. Select a time off period, or select "Turn on when windows restarts" 
6. Close Norton.

To disable the antivirus feature in Norton Internet Security: 

1. Start Norton Internet Security
2. Click Options 
3. Select Norton Internet Security Options 
4. Click Real-Time Protection
5. Select Auto-Protect
6. Un-check "Turn on Auto-Protect"
7. Select a time off period, or select turn on when windows restarts
8. Click OK and close Norton.

To disable the antivirus in other versions of Norton (such as Norton AntiVirus or Norton SystemWorks):

1. Right-click on the Norton AntiVirus icon in the windows system tray
2. Select "Disable Auto-Protect"
3. Click OK.

To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking:

1. Open Norton AntiVirus, Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security 
2. Click Options. If there is a menu, click Norton AntiVirus
3. On the left pane, select Script Blocking.
4. On the right pane, un-check "Enable Script Blocking" 
5. Click OK.

Stop Norton from Blocking MLS Updates

If CTI Navigator is unable to update when Norton is running, move Norton's ccApp.exe file from Windows Startup to Program Startup as follows:

1. Click Start > Run > type msconfig > OK 
2. Under the Startup tab, un-check ccApp.exe > Apply > Close without restart
3. Right-click Start > Open (or Open All Users)
4. Double-click Programs folder > Double-click StartUp folder
5. Right-click in an empty area of this window > Point to New > click Shortcut
6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder
7. Click ccApp.exe file > OK
8. Click Next > Finish
9. Re-start Windows
10. Click “Do not show again.”

If CTI Navigator updates still fail when Norton's security is running, CTI has created a special Update Manager  for users of Norton Internet Security that can pass MLS updates through most versions of Norton's firewall (or Internet Worm Protection) without having to disable the firewall. To replace CTI Navigator's Update Manager with the special Update Manager: 

1. Go on the Internet to www.ctimls.com/U/UM.exe  [you can just click on this hyperlink]
2. Run (or Open) the um.exe file (or in Vista, Save > then right-click on the saved file and "Run as administrator")
3. Click Unzip to install CTI's special "stealth"  Update Manager in the default folder for CTI Navigator on your "C" drive. 
4. Then update CTI Navigator normally. If you are prompted by Norton's program control to access a DNS server for www.ctimls.com, check Always Allow (or UN-check Always Block).
